Overview

Cohen and Wolf’s Higher Education practice is comprised of a cross-disciplinary and multi-skilled team of responsive attorneys who also practice in the firm’s Business & Corporate, Real EstateEmployment & Labor, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Personal Injury Groups.  Our attorneys possess a deep understanding of the legal issues that educational institutions confront as their operations intersect with numerous substantive areas of the law, and we work proactively with colleges, universities, and private secondary schools to provide creative and practical guidance.

Our experience in the employment and labor area includes defending employment discrimination claims, employment compliance counseling, policy development and training, litigation avoidance strategies, internal investigations, wage and hour cases, and faculty-specific contract negotiations. We also handle other claims of all types, including breach of contract, premises liability claims, and disciplinary matters.

Our transactional attorneys review, draft and negotiate agreements, including software and data protection contracts, partnership agreements with third parties, facilities use contracts, and vendor contracts, on behalf of colleges, universities, and secondary schools with an eye towards the unique and varied needs of educational institutions.  In addition, the group regularly represents colleges and universities on real estate matters, including leases, acquisitions, and land use and construction matters.
