Overview
Cohen and Wolf’s Community Development Finance & Affordable Housing Group has extensive experience representing non-profit organizations, for-profit developers, housing authorities, and community development corporations.
The Community Development Finance & Affordable Housing Group supports clients from initial property acquisition and development planning through construction, approvals, and sale or rent-up. We advise clients in acquisitions from private sellers or government agencies, as well as through expiring-use programs and other acquisition and financing programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Group helps clients plan and structure financing, often involving a combination of conventional and subsidized mortgages, governmental and private loans and grants, and proceeds from tax credit equity syndication. We have extensive experience with scattered-site and cooperative developments based on ground leases, as well as subsidized homeownership programs involving “slow” or non-amortizing mortgages.
Our team of attorneys advises on low-income housing tax credits, historic preservation tax credits, property tax abatements, land bank programs, and other incentives for housing development, including housing for persons with special needs. We have significant experience with funding programs of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Department of Housing, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and municipal governments, and are familiar with affordable housing resources, lenders, and investors in Connecticut and nationwide.
