Overview

Jim is a Principal in Cohen and Wolf's Community Development Finance & Affordable Housing, Real Estate, Business & Corporate, and Commercial Finance Groups. He represents clients throughout the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. 

Affordable Housing

Jim has extensive experience in the development and financing of affordable and supportive housing. His practice includes the representation of non-profit and charitable organizations, for-profit developers, community development corporations, public housing authorities and financial intermediaries. He has experience with residential, commercial and mixed-use properties in urban and rural settings. Jim specializes in layering multi-level funding including federal, state and local sources for the acquisition, financing and development and operating of these projects.

Real Estate

Jim handles complex commercial real estate transactions, which includes advising and representing sellers and buyers, ground lessors and ground lessees, and landlord and tenants of commercial and mixed used properties.

Business & Corporate

As part of the legal counsel and services Jim provides, he assists in the formation of limited partnerships, corporations (including tax exempt organizations), and limited liability companies.

Jim has wide-ranging knowledge in the structuring of non-profit and charitable organizations. He has provided counsel to establish charters, Boards, policies and practice for agencies ranging from social service agencies to small financing organizations.

Banking & Finance

Jim has established a diverse practice representing financial institutions and loan portfolio purchasers in the area of loan restructuring, creditor’ rights, workout, enforcement actions and business law.

Common Interest Communities

Jim also provides counsel in respect to the formation and governance of common interest communities, including condominiums and cooperatives.

Community Involvement & Background

Dedicated to supporting his community, Jim currently serves on the Board of Directors for Westerly Area Rest Meals, Inc. (WARM Center) and Community Housing Land Trust of RI, Inc.

Prior to joining Cohen and Wolf, Jim was a partner at a business law and litigation firm based in Hartford, Connecticut for 20 years.
