Cohen and Wolf Welcomes Attorneys Bianca Scherr & Rebekah Scherr for Pride Month Lunch & Learn

In honor of the LGBTQ+ movement and in celebration of Pride 2020, Cohen and Wolf’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee continued its Lunch & Learn Series by hosting a Lunch & Learn on June 26, 2020. It was particularly special for the Firm to host this event on June 26th, which is a historic day in the LGBTQ+ community as this day marks the anniversary of numerous pro-equality Supreme Court decisions (Lawrence v. Texas, United States v. Windsor, Obergefell v. Hodges) and the week commemorates the Stonewall Uprising and the inaugural Pride March in the United States.

We were joined by our featured speakers Attorneys Bianca Scherr and Rebekah Scherr. It was a particular honor to welcome back Bianca Scherr, who was a summer associate at the Firm in 2015 and is now an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Bianca also serves as chair of the LGBTQ+ Lawyers’ Association at the Manhattan DA’s Office. Rebekah Scherr is an associate in Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP’s Corporate Department and a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions practice group. Rebekah serves on Paul, Weiss’s Associate Committee, Inclusion Task Force, and as a Leader of the Pride@Work Network. Both Bianca and Rebekah are active members and frequent speakers within the National LGBT Bar Association.

Bianca and Rebekah’s presentation provided attendees with a brief overview of important terms and definitions often used when discussing issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community as well as a historical background on the LGBTQ+ movement. They then facilitated an excellent and engaging discussion about frequent types of discrimination faced by the LGBTQ+ community within the legal field and society as a whole. Bianca and Rebekah concluded by providing the Firm with practical resources on how to be better allies to the LGBTQ+ community as we continue this conversation.
