Attorney Kaelyn Mostafa Claims Another Lemon Law Victory Against Ford Motor Company
After an arbitration hearing before the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Attorney Kaelyn Mostafa won a lemon law award of over $50,000 for Stratford client and consumer Kathie A. Powell. The favorable arbitration decision ordered leading U.S. auto manufacturer, Ford Motor Company (“Ford”), to refund Ms. Powell the vehicle contract price, and awarded her attorney’s fees and other incidental costs.
“I knew from the get-go that I did not want to file my Lemon Law case on my own,” Ms. Powell explained. “I did not want to go through this process without an experienced Lemon Law attorney. It was a pleasure working with Atty. Kaelyn Mostafa, and I knew I was in good hands for the journey that was ahead of us. She has years of experience in dealing with Lemon Law cases. She provided valuable guidance in preparing for the hearing, and I knew what to expect as a result of her advice.”
On October 1, 2023, Ms. Powell purchased a 2023 Ford Explorer from a dealer in Milford. Several months later, the vehicle suffered multiple episodes when the vehicle’s engine surged and attempted to accelerate the vehicle while the brake pedal was depressed. The episodes, described by Ms. Powell during the arbitration hearing as being “sudden” and “violent,” occurred on a random basis. Although the vehicle was brought into the dealer four times for repairs, no abnormality was discovered by technicians.
After determining that the consumers’ vehicle met the eligibility requirements for relief under Chapter 743b of the Connecticut General Statutes (nicknamed the “lemon law”), Attorney Mostafa filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection. The lemon law arbitration hearing was held on February 27, 2025, and the decision was issued on April 3, 2025 in favor of the consumer.
“After the decision was rendered, I was very happy knowing it was a result of having had Atty. Mostafa at the helm. I thank her and Cohen and Wolf for the successful outcome,” said Ms. Powell.
Last spring, Attorney Mostafa won a similar lemon law award for a Norwalk resident in a case against Ford Motor Company. Within the past few years, she has also won lemon law awards against various other manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, and Jaguar Land Rover.
