Attorney Philip C. Pires and Attorney Alexander Copp Recognized for Excellence by Benchmark Litigation

Cohen and Wolf is proud to announce that Attorney Philip C. Pires and Attorney Alexander Copp have been named to Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 “40 & Under Hot List”.

Benchmark’s “40 & Under Hot List” identifies the “best and brightest law firm partners who stand out in their practices”, and deems named practitioners to be “among the top young talent in their respective litigation communities.”

2021 marks the fourth consecutive year that Phil Pires has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s “40 & Under Hot List”. Phil is a principal of Cohen and Wolf and resides in the firm’s Bridgeport office. He practices law in the areas of commercial litigation, municipal law, estate and probate litigation, property tax appeals, and land use and zoning.

Active in his community, Phil serves as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Bridgeport’s Downtown Special Services District, a special taxing district serving the city’s downtown area. He previously served for six years as a member of Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM), the legislative body for the Town of Fairfield, including two years as the Moderator of the RTM.

In addition to being named to Benchmark Litigation’s “40 and Under Hot List”, Phil is recognized by Best Lawyers® for his work in Commercial Litigation (2021) and by Super Lawyers® as a “Rising Star” for Business Litigation (2012 – present). He is listed on Moffly Media’s “Top Lawyers in Fairfield County” list (2021), and holds an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Rating, the highest possible Peer Review Rating™ from Martindale- Hubbell.

Phil is admitted to practice in Connecticut, U.S. District Court District of Connecticut, U.S. District Court Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 2nd Circuit, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association.

Alexander Copp is a member of several of Cohen and Wolf’s practice groups, including Probate Litigation, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Municipal, Land Use & Zoning, Appellate, and Employment & Labor. Resident in the firm’s Danbury office, Alex advises individuals, businesses, and municipalities in a wide range of matters involving land use, landlord-tenant disputes, probate litigation, defamation, employment discrimination, and business litigation, and he has experience in both state and federal courts.

In addition to being named to Benchmark Litigation’s “40 and Under Hot List”, Alex was named a “New Leader in the Law”, by the Connecticut Law Tribune in 2020. He is also recognized as a “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers® (2021) for his work in Land Use and Zoning Law and by Super Lawyers® as a “Rising Star” (2018-2020) for General Litigation work.

Alex is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and previously served as Chair of the Dispute Resolution Section of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section. He earned his J.D. from Quinnipiac University, magna cum laude, and his B.A. from University of West Florida, magna cum laude.
Alex is admitted to practice in both Connecticut and New York.
