Attorney Ken Bernhard to Teach U.S. Constitutional Law in RussiaBridgeport, CT, March 10, 2008 - G. Kenneth Bernhard, a principal at Cohen and Wolf, P.C., will teach American Constitutional Law, focusing on American history and the Bill of Rights, to law students at Petrozavodsk State University in Russia during the week of April 20. Mr. Bernhard was invited by Alexander A. Larichev, head of the Center for International Collaboration and Scientific Research, Faculty of Law, at Petrozavodsk State University. The opportunity came through the Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg Austria, where Mr. Bernhard serves as a "Senior Attorney" since his appointment in 2006. "This assignment is another example of international collegiality in the field of law," said Mr. Bernhard. "I am honored and excited to have the chance to share our constitutional heritage. I am particularly looking forward to meeting with the students outside of the classroom to discuss and compare the political and electoral process that is going on in both Russia and the United States this year." The Russian engagement is the latest international venture for Mr. Bernhard. Last year, he conducted a week-long seminar on copyright and contract law to a group of Iraqi museum curators in Amman, Jordan at the invitation of UNESCO. In 2006, he taught a public law course to law students at Neophyte Rilski University in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has also taught at the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland. Mr. Bernhard will bring along greetings from the Connecticut state legislature and Governor Jodi Rell through citations and proclamations to the faculty, students and administration of the University. The students and faculty are fluent in English despite the school's remote location in northeast Russia, a 14-hour train ride from Moscow. Mr. Bernhard is very active in state and local matters. He currently serves as town attorney for the Towns of Weston (since 2000) and Wilton (since 1992). He was Westport's former Legislative State Representative and served as Westport's Third Selectman and as Town Attorney. Mr. Bernhard was recently appointed to the Citizen's Ethics Advisory Board in Connecticut. In 2005, he was appointed by Governor Rell to sit on the state's Judicial Review Council. This appointment was just extended until 2010.
