Ken Bernhard Appointed to
Citizen's Ethics Advisory Board

Weston, CT, December 2, 2007 - Weston Town Attorney, G. Kenneth Bernhard, a Principal at Cohen and Wolf, P.C., was appointed to the Citizen's Ethics Advisory Board, the governing body for the Office of State Ethics, an independent watchdog agency for the State of Connecticut that ensures honesty, integrity and accountability in state government. The four-year term is effective January 1, 2008.

In his letter announcing Mr. Bernhard's appointment, State Representative Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. wrote, "I know the talents and expertise you bring to [this position] will be of great value and service to our state and its citizens."

Mr. Bernhard has a strong record of public service. In 2005, he was appointed by Governor Jodi Rell to sit on the state's Judicial Review Council. This appointment was just extended until 2010. He volunteered his services to the Connecticut Judiciary as an attorney trial referee from 1984-1996. Mr. Bernhard was Westport's State Representative to the Connecticut General Assembly and served as an Assistant Minority Leader.

Mr. Bernhard has served as the Town Attorney in Weston since 1999, through both democratic and republican administrations. For the past eight years, Mr. Bernhard has been responsible for providing legal advice to the town's boards and commissions. During his tenure he has handled multiple and complex legal issues involving litigation, contract negotiations, labor advice, tax foreclosures, FOI requests and administrative appeals.

Mr. Bernhard has been a powerful advocate for the town on quality of life issues. Most recently, he led the Cohen and Wolf, P.C. team that battled Cablevision to preserve the rights of local access television producers to control programming produced with community access funds. Also, Mr. Bernhard's firm was instrumental in helping the town persuade the Connecticut Siting Council to redirect their new power lines so they do not run through the Weston community.
