Attorney Richard Di Marco Elected Chairman of the Connecticut Bar Association's Tax Section

Richard J. Di Marco, partner with the law firm of Cohen and Wolf, P.C., has been elected chairman of the 450-member Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA). The CBA's Tax Section provides continuing education for Connecticut attorneys in the area of taxation, serves as a resource concerning federal and state tax laws to the legislature, serves as a liaison between the CBA and the Internal Revenue Service and the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, and provides a forum for the exchange of technical information among tax lawyers. Mr. Di Marco has been a member of its executive committee for the past 18 years. He previously served as its secretary/treasurer and vice chairman.

Mr. Di Marco, a resident of Weston, is based in Cohen and Wolf's Westport office. He concentrates his practice in taxation, estate planning and administration, business transactions, and representation of taxpayers before the IRS. He has lectured to a wide array of groups including attorneys, accountants, and the public on topics including basic and advanced estate planning, choice of business entity, partnership tax, S corporation taxation, like kind exchanges, tax aspects of divorce, tax aspects of insolvency and bankruptcy, IRA distributions, generation skipping tax, Connecticut estate tax, Connecticut conveyance taxes, IRS collections and offers in compromise, and other subjects.

Mr. Di Marco earned his B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany in 1977, his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1983, and his LL.M. (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law in 1984.

He joined Cohen and Wolf after graduating law school and is now the firm's principal tax attorney, involved in all areas of the firm's diverse practice. He practiced as a CPA prior to entering law school.

Mr. Di Marco was a founding director of the Norwalk Community Health Center and was a director of the United Way of Norwalk & Wilton. He serves on the board of the Westport Arts Center. He has provided counsel to many other charitable organizations for many years.
