PHILIP C. PIRES is an associate in Cohen and Wolf, P.C.'s Litigation, Municipal, and Land Use and Zoning Groups. Resident in the Bridgeport office, Mr. Pires practices in the areas of commercial litigation, real property litigation, property tax appeals, landlord/tenant litigation, and land use and zoning law. Mr. Pires represents municipalities and private individuals in commercial and residential property tax appeals, zoning enforcement actions, and zoning appeals.  Mr. Pires represents commercial landlords in all phases of eviction actions, from the service of the notice to quit to the ejectment of the tenant from the property. He also represents commercial landlords in recovering back rents and fees owed by tenants. Mr. Pires also has experience representing property owners in border disputes, adverse possession claims, quiet title suits, and trespass suits.

As an intern with the University of Connecticut School of Law Asylum and Human Rights Clinic, Mr. Pires represented an individual seeking political asylum in the United States and was responsible for all aspects of the asylum process. During law school he was a law clerk with Horton, Shields & Knox, P.C., in Hartford , where he worked on civil and criminal appeals.

Mr. Pires is admitted to practice in Connecticut and the U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut. He is a member of the American, Connecticut , and Greater Bridgeport Bar Associations. He is a member of the Litigation and Planning and Zoning Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association. 

 

Mr. Pires received his B.A., in 2005, from Haverford College and his J.D., with honors, in 2008 from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Constitutional Law. While in law school, he served as executive editor of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal and was a member of the Connecticut Moot Court Board.
