Philip C. Pires Elected to Serve as Democratic Minority Leader on Fairfield's RTM

BRIDGEPORT, CT (January 5, 2016) – Philip C. Pires was recently re-elected to serve a second two-year term on Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM) and was elected to serve as the Democratic Minority Leader of the RTM. Mr. Pires will serve on the RTM’s Legislation & Administration Committee and Special Legislative Management Committee.

The RTM is the town’s legislative body. All legislative power of the town, including the power to enact ordinances, lies with the RTM. The RTM is made up of forty members (four members from each of the town’s 10 voting districts).

In addition to his role on the RTM, Mr. Pires is an attorney with Cohen and Wolf, P.C., a law firm with four offices in Fairfield and New Haven counties, where he is a member of the firm’s Litigation, Municipal, and Land Use and Zoning Groups. Mr. Pires practices in the areas of commercial litigation, real property litigation, property tax appeals, landlord/tenant litigation, and land use and zoning law. He is a member of the Litigation Planning & Zoning Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association and he formerly served on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Connecticut Bar Association as co-chair of its Municipal Law Committee.

Mr. Pires was recognized in 2015 by the Connecticut Law Tribune as a “New Leader in the Law”. He has been named a "Rising Star" by Connecticut Super Lawyers since 2012 in the category of Business Litigation, and he was recently honored with an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest such peer review rating available to any individual lawyer.
