Bernhard Appointed to Connecticut Board of Veterinary Medicine

  • Governor Daniel Malloy, on April 27, 2012, appointed G. Kenneth Bernhard to the Connecticut Board of Veterinary Medicine. The board consists of five members appointed by the Governor: three of the members are practitioners of veterinary medicine residing in the state in good professional standing and the remaining two are public members.

In this role, Mr. Bernhard will assist the Commissioner of Public Health to issue regulations to insure proper veterinary care and the protection of public health, considering the convenience and welfare of the animals being treated, methods recommended by the code of ethics of the national and state veterinary associations, proper registrations of veterinarians for prompt identification and accepted health and veterinary standards as promulgated by the Department of Public Health, Department of Agriculture health ordinances and state statutes and regulations.

"We turn to veterinarians not only to keep beloved family pets healthy but to protect Connecticut's important dairy, poultry and other livestock industries. I am pleased to serve on this important panel,” said Mr. Bernhard.

In addition to serving on the Board, Mr. Bernhard, as a principal at Cohen and Wolf, represents municipalities and a wide range of businesses, as well as individuals, in litigation, real estate, and commercial matters. He currently serves as town attorney for Wilton and previously served as town attorney for Westport and Weston. He also represented Westport as its State Representative in the Connecticut General Assembly. Mr. Bernhard remains active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Westport/Weston Chamber of Commerce and volunteering his time as a legal advisor to the Westport Public Library, the Levitt Pavilion, Earthplace and the Westport Historical Society.
