MATTHEW C. SUSMAN is a principal in Cohen and Wolf's Business & Corporate, Real Estate and Municipal Groups. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Susman was a partner with Susman, Duffy & Segaloff, P.C.
Mr. Susman’s practice emphasizes the representation of banks and other financial institutions in commercial lending transactions, including asset-based and real estate secured loans, and syndicated and club deals. He is actively involved in the representation of municipalities with respect to economic development and privatization projects, and bonding and other financing transactions. Mr. Susman also represents real estate developers, particularly with respect to financing and acquisition transactions. He advises business clients in matters concerning choice of entity and commercial loan transactions, asset and stock purchases and sales, and lease negotiations. Mr. Susman regularly advises individual clients with respect to a broad range of legal issues, including business formation and succession issues.
Mr. Susman is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Real Estate Law and Banking and Finance Law, and received the prestigious AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. The AV Preeminent rating is the highest such peer review rating available to any individual lawyer.
Mr. Susman serves on the board of directors and Executive Committee of New Haven’s Shubert Theater, and on the Executive Committee of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He previously served on the boards of the New Haven Arts Council and the New Haven Ballet, and served as the Hamden representative to the Board of Directors of the South Central Connecticut Regional Economic Development Corporation.
Mr. Susman holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and received his law degree from the Fordham University School of Law. Mr. Susman has also practiced law in Burlington, Vermont and New York City, and he is admitted to the Connecticut, New York and Vermont bars.
