JACK MCGREGOR serves as of counsel to Cohen and Wolf. Resident in the firm's Bridgeport office, Mr. McGregor brings extensive experience to corporate, commercial and regulatory matters. He serves as an advisor to companies looking to create a business in the Bridgeport region and as a consultant to existing companies that want to grow and expand their market share in the area. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
Prior to joining Cohen and Wolf, Mr. McGregor served as president and chief executive officer of Connecticut-based water utility Aquarion Company. Prior to Aquarion, he operated his own venture capital company for six years. In the early 1970s, Mr. McGregor held appointive regulatory positions in the federal government, and then became general counsel of a major electric utility. He later served as general counsel and then as chief operating officer of a multinational oil company. In the 1960s, he practiced law in the Pittsburgh and Washington offices of the law firm of Reed Smith, LLP (formerly Reed, Smith, Shaw and McClay). Mr. McGregor served in the Pennsylvania Senate for eight years and founded the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League. He was a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Appointed by President George W. Bush, Mr. McGregor served on the Advisory Board of Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation for six years. He served as chairman of the Board of Directors of Aquarion Company and on the board of Aquarion for several years. He also served as a director of Bay State Gas Company and People's Bank. He is the co-founder and former co-owner of the Bridgeport Bluefish. He has served on Bridgeport's Board of Police Commissioners, followed by a mayoral appointment to the Board of Bridgeport's Energy Improvement District. Mr. McGregor served as president of the National Association of Water Companies, chairman of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection's Pollution Prevention Committee, and chairman of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. In addition, he served on the boards of Fairfield University, the University of Bridgeport, Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Barnum Museum, the Governor's Greenway Committee, the Bridgeport Regional Economic Development Committee and the Governor's Team Bridgeport.
Mr. McGregor received his B.S. from Yale University and J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was valedictorian and editor-in-chief of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Quinnipiac University in 1995.
